Ryan
Your review persuaded me to take the plunge and by a Guv'nor. I almost bought the Clubman but couldn't quite manage the three speed fixed gar arrangement. I had concerns about how a gov'nor would go in a warmer climate but have been convinced.

Now, how on earth do I get access to the members area? I want those wing nuts...

DW,
I was thinking that the whole frame was brass coated, I had a tiny chip from a stone that revealed brass on the frame. I scrapped at it with my finger thinking it was dirt only to find a little paintwork come off! Nature of the beast I think!

What happened anthony to cause such damage to the gears if you dont mind me asking? sounds serious.

Ryan..........you are indeed a lucky chappy to have aquired your Plus Four. I was speaking with Pashley a few week ago, and the conversation got round to the Plus Four and whether there would be another batch, the answer was no. It would appear that Pashley run into major problems with regard to those lovely brass lugs, it fact in production the whole frame had to be brass plated which in turn caused production problems with the powder coating. So it would appear you and 49 other owners have got yourselves a nice slice of Guv'nor heritage. Well done!

hell0 - another guvnor/roadster owner here. It is quite something switching between these two - though love them both. Only problem I have with the roadster is that the gears aren't working properly - can only get 3rd and 4th. My local shop told me the whole hub needed replacing at a cost of £ 200 - so 2 gears it is!

Hello chaps,
Thought I might join the general discussion from far off Australia and give you some of my thoughts on the Guvnor.
I was most fortunate to be able to purchase a Plus Four (39/50) from my local Pashley dealer, and only through spirited negotiations. I had already been riding a Pashley Roadster Classic 26" since last October and had found that a pleasure to ride - nippy enough to speed along the river tracks, yet relaxed to make my daily commute to work. But I wanted something more.
I haad decided a Guvnor was the go, and had decided on a three speed, after much reading of the posts here and on other places, and had become aware of the mythical Plus four, thinking I would never see one! On getting the bikes serviced (my dear lady gads about on a Princess) I happened to notice the gleaming Brass lugs of a Plus Four in the back room of bike shop, and exclaimed in hushed voice "that's a plus four!!!!!" My Pashley dealer on seeing that I knew about this bike and my obvious excitment allowed me to put a deposit on it, though on the condition that he could borrow it for trade shows etc. (He really did not want to sell it having put 6 people off from purchasing it)
I have now had it since the beginning of Febuary, ridden nearly 300kms, and find it so exciting to ride.
I had been warned that the gear arrangment might be difficult to get a hang of, but it was a duck to water, and I believe that it really is quite efficient. To see some of those lycra clad crowd crunch away as they climb up hills or zoom past just to show off, I take quiet pleasure in the quick back pedal and kick of my hill, and sit in their slipstream. It is a bike that turns heads, and so many think it is a single speed, and just look plain confused when I explain the set up!! I have used it to commute to work a few times but find I end up riding too hard and arrive in a lather of sweet, so I have kept my Roadster for that as well as shopping etc.
I plan to keep the bike as much 'as is' as possible, the only addition I think will be toe clips, just to help me along on some of those longer rides, and possibly some removable lights for the cooler months.
So for anyone out there thinking of purchasing a Guvnor, have no hesitation! You will fall in love it, and find yourself making excuses just to ride.
Thankyou to all the people who regularly post on this forum, your thoughts and information is always helpful, and I hope to drop the occasional line of what is happening on ths side of the world!
Regards R
(and is'nt the Plus Two a stunner?)

Hello All,

I too use the Lezyne line of tools. I specifically recommend the V5 multi-tool. It contains a 3, 4 (brake or fender stay), 5 (brake handlebar clamps), and 6 (stem and saddle), as well as a #2 Phillips (for the 3-speed shifter). In addition, it is extremely compact. I also carry a PDW (Portland Design Works) Magic Flute mini-pump, a well crafted work of art that fits in my rear pouch and the Guv'nor's aesthetic nicely.

Take care,

Gary

What Ho!,...I currently use the excellent Lezyne range of tools and usually carry the same kit, irrespective of which bike I ride.
Spare tube (for specific bike), Park and lezyne patches, Lezyne multi-tool, tyre levers, chain repair links, Lezyne pump, (has double-ended presta/schrader screw-on hose,...excellent), adjustable spanner (small), Jelly Bellys, Aloe Up and a few Band-Aids.
Some of my older bikes have specific spanner/allen key requirements, so these are added as necessary .
The Lezyne range perfectly complements the Guv'nor's style, and their wooden-handled track pump is now used on all of my bikes,...Highly Recommended range of products.

Hello,
I use a Topeak Alien multitool- ring spanners up to 13mm, allen keys 3-8 mm, knife, bottle opener, flat & phillips screwdrivers and a pretty good chain tool all held together in a compact pouch, I usually carry a tub of puncture repair stuff and a few spare chain pins, spare tube, zip ties & a few strips of duct tape & some strips of old toothpaste tube (will deal with a split tyre sidewall) a pump (& suspension pump depending on what bike I'm on) and jellybabies ... oh and a first aid kit too....but then until now I have mainly been mountainbiking .... I may trim the kit a little for the Guv lol.

Always erring on the side of caution, tyres, nuts, bolts, cables, what you are regularly checked. Just in case the inevitable happens, a compact multi tool, mini pump and repair kit are always in the travel pouch. Don't skimp on the quality though! Like the Guvnor, quality speaks for it's self: what's the point in a mini spanner or allan key being as tough as a toffee!

Gentlemen,
Don't know if the International Bureaux is active yet but decided to post here anyway, I have a general question for all....
What kind of tool kit, if any, do you carry when on a ride? Are the "multi-tool" contraptions worth their salt?
Your comments and observations would be most welcome.
Best,
Jonathan
