It’s nice, and looks slightly more aggressive with those handlebars. Yes, I think I do like it.

Back pedal brake too, according to the singletrack website.

I am going to wade in.
I prefer it to the ‘normal’ Guvnor
It is uncluttered by brake of gear cables.
The handlebars are more ‘track’ (or ‘path’, if you like) than flippped North Roads
the crankset is an improvement, but looks incongruous on a bike that could otherwise, at a glance, pass for a 100 year old racer. the chainwheel looks 1980s parts-bin.

The Cycling Photographer September 28, 2010 at 10:16 am

Agreed: looks leaner and meaner. Indeed, it was the route I tried taking my single speeder along. Question: why the hell didn’t they, (Pashley), do this originally?
Tinker, tinker, tinker. British industry not quite getting it right….. again.
Think. Refine and THEN produce.
Ride on!

Fenrir September 28, 2010 at 10:25 am

I still prefer the original Guv though.

James September 28, 2010 at 12:25 pm

I like it a lot. Have already decided it’ll be my ‘next’ Guvnor. No idea when that will be mind…

Duchy Wheeler September 28, 2010 at 12:44 pm

One & All,
Very interesting, Pashley certainly kept this under the wraps!
The new Sturmey Archer coaster brake S2C hub and Brooks leather taped Lauterwasser style shallow drop bars, both of which have been showcased on their upcoming Clubman Urban model.
I do like the unclattered frame , but it will require a front brake, like the Plus Four, to be legal in the UK.
Await the final production specifications details and price!
Safe rides.

I think they had a look at my Gazelle path racer. Look at the angle of the front!

I like the handlebars!

Lapize September 28, 2010 at 6:28 pm

Where do you get the bars from, these are the type I LApize recognise and prefer !

Ian Martin September 28, 2010 at 11:04 pm

Pity the axle diameter is 13/32 or it would’ve been a sure thing for Duchy’s wingnuts a’la the front wheel!

TeuBeu2 October 1, 2010 at 4:17 pm

Nice ! Does anyone know when it will be available ?

Duchy Wheeler October 2, 2010 at 5:19 pm

TeuBeu2, One and All,
I would guesstimate that it will be early 2011 before the Guv’nor 2 and the new Clubman models are available for dealer delivery. The London Cycle Show at Earls Court is next week, so hopefully we will see the full UK specifications and prices and Pashley taking orders, which currently appear to be in the region of two months. Just in time for us UK subjects for the increase in VAT to 20% in January!
Safe rides, Geoff.

One & All,

If you are thinking about getting a Guv’nor 2 or have a Plus Four, the follow link should be essential reading if you haven’t previously ridden a cycle with coaster/back pedal brakes. The website is CTC, so it’s an authoritative source of information, on safe and correct techniques.

Safe rides, Geoff.

Fenrir October 6, 2010 at 8:25 am

I’ll be at the cycle show this weekend, so will keep an eye out for the new Guvnor.

Duchy Wheeler October 11, 2010 at 10:37 am

One & All,
Just an update on the Guv’nor 2. I rung Pashley this morning, post London Cycle Show, and I was told the model displayed was a prototype and wouldn’t be available until next year at the earliest. So as with most things Pashley, don’t hold your breath waiting, going by past form it will probably be this time next year before it appears for retail sale!
Safe rides, Geoff.

Fenrir October 11, 2010 at 11:05 am

Interesting info there. I’ve got some more photos of the Guv 2 to put onto the forum, along with the price. Also snapped the Clubman, Clubman 16 speed and other bits and pieces.

Adam October 12, 2010 at 8:03 pm

Evening Gentlemen,
I feel that Pashley are very Balearic with their time-scales, the Guv’nor “coming soon” accessories web page was put up in 2008.
Regards,
Adam

Glad to see the S2C Two Speed from Sturmey getting more reknown!

We’ve building wheel sets with them over at Coasties for the past few months with good feedback from our customers.

One issue – seems 2 out of 10 people had some braking “chatter” while the hub was new. One has had the sound go away. Other is still dealing with it.

Duchy Wheeler March 7, 2011 at 4:53 pm

One & All,
The good news is that the Guv’nor ‘Plus Two’ is now available to order from your Pashley dealer, UK delivery about six weeks.
Safe rides, DW.

Rich Senior March 21, 2011 at 12:10 pm

Afternoon Gentlemen,
I have just placed a deposit, and ordered a 20.5″ Pashley Guv’nor Plus Two from my local cycling emporium in Dorset. The quoted lead time is between four and six weeks. I will post pictures and my initial impressions as soon as I take delivery. I will at that point apply to be considered as a full member of this fine owners club.

Rich Senior March 24, 2011 at 12:06 pm

Gentlemen, I have just cancelled my order for the Plus Two Guv’nor. Apparently Pashley Cycles have rejected a batch of handlebars for the Plus Two, and as a result have withdrawn the six week delivery time frame. I have ordered a single speed Guv’nor instead (delivery 2 to 3 weeks).

Fenrir March 24, 2011 at 12:30 pm

Interesting to hear that. One would think they had it all in place before taking orders…………..

Alex McF March 24, 2011 at 8:31 pm

All becomes clear. A superior, divine force has ordained that the Major Taylor bars are not fit for the Guv 2… clearing the path for an order from Pashley of those nice Lauterwassers…

mick April 7, 2011 at 9:56 pm

is the guv2 just a clubman painted black with cream tyres? if so, whats the point.

Fenrir April 8, 2011 at 8:22 am

When I saw the two side by side last year, they looked pretty different. Not a mechanics man, so dunno on that front.

The Cycling Photographer April 8, 2011 at 9:28 am

Non!
Different beasts.

Tony Tex June 23, 2011 at 6:14 am

Hey Guys,
Love the clean lines, Campagnolo crank & bars on the Guv-2. I am going to change a few parts on my Guv-3 to get the same look. Will get the Campy crank, old Cinelli stem & the Lauterwassers bars. Then find a way to clean up (replace) the ugly break leavers & might add a bar-end shifter for the 3 speed hub. I might even take the forks to my platers to get the brass or nickel treatment? Think they can tape off the painted lower fork & sand-blast then plate the crown tube only.

PS: Missed this cool bike went cheap.
