The Guvnor is becoming the prop of choice for art directors and fashion photographers. This exuberant image of model Arlenis Sosa, from a shoot by Alexi Lubomirski in Harper’s Bazaar, offers a vivacious twist on the usual men in tweed.

Thanks for the mention!
What a joyful, exuberant image, and beautifully composed photo. We need more photos of cyclists looking like this (and less like train spotters!)
Mark, quite! We insist upon it.
I have now taken delivery of my Guvnor.Could I please ask the members for a bit of advise.Does a new Guvnor come with pedals ? If not what are the best ones to buy and where from ?.I also read that the bike comes with a punchture repair kit which mine did not.Is that correct ? By the way it looks stunning but the wife wants me to move it out of the lounge.
Chris, shame about the lounge. Perhaps it would be better in the bedroom?
I’ve experienced mixed reports about whether pedals are supplied or not. In my case they had to be bought separately, but I know of others where they came supplied. The standard pedals are Sylvan Stream Rat Trap, but others have chosen the larger Sylvan Touring Rat Trap.
Some Guvnors come with a bag of various bonus items, others with just tea, some with a tin packed with puncture repair kit, spare tube and so on, others still with nothing at all.
The only explanation I have for this is that:
a) Pashley have altered what is supplied with the Guvnor over the last 2 years
b) There are numerous opportunities for these items to become separated – legitimately or otherwise – between the factory, the bike shop and delivery.
I received my Govnor about six weeks ago now from EBC, it came with MKS Stream pedals, and a tin full of goodies (One 6mm Allen key, one 13x15mm spanner, 25g of Brooks Saddle Proofide, 100ml 3-in-one oil, one spare inner tube and 125g of ‘Guv’nors Blend” tea (a year and a half out of date))
I hope this helps
Mine came with pedals but not the tin with the ‘goodies’. I asked about it in the shop later and they happened to find it. They said they ordered it from Pashley but it seemed to arrive rather quickly.
If you haven’t received the tin, I would go back and ask for it.
Chris…….all the items mentioned in Adam’s comments should have been supplied, plus reflectors for the front, rear and pedals, also owner’s manual. It’s a legal requirement for the retailer to supply a new cycle with these items in the UK.
Ah yes, the owner’s manual. I never got that either :-(
Nor a bell, sigh.
Thanks again to a rider who shall remain anonymous for the scan of the manual!
Thanks for all your advice.I have just ordered a set of pedals.I will give the supplier a ring about the tin although I did get a spare tube, reflectors, spanner, three in one oil,Brooks proofide,6mm allen key and a bag of Guvnor tea (in date lucky me).I guess I have got all I should have.Once again many thanks for the quick response. One last question is the Brooks B17 saddle Brown or Honey ?
Brown is the standard issue for the Guvnor’s B17.
Should also note the Pashley handlebar grips start their life closer in colour to the Brooks honey, and tend to darken over time.
I’ve just found out about your site. I’m the happy owner of a Guvnor as well. Here I am with my bike in Buenos Aires.
http://www.pashley.co.uk/gallery/classic-bicycles/3/158.html
I read about a new “special edition”. What do you know about it?
Hernan, welcome! Great snap of you in Buenos Aires, would love to see more.
By “special edition”, do you mean the Plus Four?
Hello James,
http://www.pashley.co.uk/products/guvnor.html,
please, look at the page “news”= an article “return to the Club” speaking to the Urban Clubman and Country Clubman .Those bikes are announced for 2010.
I think that is what Hernan alludes to.
Others beautiful bikes.
A beautiful lady and a beautiful bike. Excellent, love the photo. I really want a Guv’nor now!
I saw this…
“First unveiled at Interbike 2009, the Guv’nor LTD is a classic Bucking-
ham Black frame with dipped brass lugs. If that ain’t cool enough, Pa-
shley threw on a high ratio made-in-Switzerland Schlumpf two speed
crankset that is literally ‘kicked’ into gear. Very, very limited stock. Pics
coming soon!

Sturmey Archer drum

Brooks B17 Titanium

…at a distributor’s website and I thought that there was a new LTD Guvnor, but I think is the Plus 4 and they’ve got it wrong.
Best.
H.
Hernan…….if this model is produced it would be a ‘Plus Six’ , I say bring it on!
The ‘Plus Four’ used the Sachs Duomatic two speed hub, new old stock, so if Pashley made a follow on model the obvious choice be a Surmey Archer hub.
Getting back to what came with the bike, my arrived with lovely model Arlenis who taught me all the details of the machine!
Hello together!
I am looking for the Handlebar used withe the Gov´nor.
Can Somebody pleas give me Width, Backsweep and Upsweep ?
Or can tell the exact product?
The same withe the Stem.
Thanks, regards
Elmar
Hello Members, after much personal debate, I have recently purchased a single speed machine.
I must admit reading your interesting post, helped me make my purchase .
Truly a magnificent machine.
:filled my application as of yet not being contacted.
Hello Anthony, might I suggest you take a look at http://www.theguvnorsassembly.com
It’s a forum similar to this one that has been set up by members who are keen to keep the Guvnor community going, as it is looking likely that this site will be defunct by the end of September.
You will be sure of a warm welcome, hope to see you over there.
Kind regards,
Martin
One & All,
Is there anyone there or have you all jumped ship?
I’m going to loiter to see what happens on the 28th. September. Sadly all the content from this site could disappear into the ether.
Nevertheless I feel I must say I was very disappointed not to be asked my views on the new website name (oh dear, sounds like something to do with prisons or schools), structure and content. Having been a long standing member and major contributor to the GOC I thought my views would have been sought, but there you go I suppose I will just have to get over it!
Safe rides, DW.
DW,
I’m here but have not posted in quite sometime. My Plus Four was out of commision for quite sometime. Is this site really imploding at September’s end? I have been to the “new” web page but see little difference in what it offers compared to GOC.
Alas, we are screwed.
Best,
RI Gov
Some are still here, yes. Shuffling going on behind the curtains. Transactions underway. Tea in the pot.

I am here also, havn’t posted but I do check both sites all the time.

…hey what’s up and for changing the subject; what can we do to get some high performance “Made In Germany ” Continentals Gatorskins (or whatever) in a 28 x 1 1/4, 700 B Course (32-635 – 35-635), and some high performance 635 mm light Velocity Blunt rims (or whatever) with no braking surface, (we’re using drums) in black, teak, silver, steel grey and maybe other colours.
Undoubtedly, the heavier and eternal Westwood rims are beautifull but they also mean added rolling-weight and is this that makes cycling hard work—an ounce saved in the wheel department being worth pounds saved anywhere else on the machine.
So lets get the word out and please give “the rest of us” more options in the wheel department!!, we got the money and we could really spend it in some nice lightweight rims and tyres.
Cheers, jorge ullfig

Hello Esteemed Fellow Remaining Members:
Has any attempt been made–or is being made–to migrate the wealth of info we have collectively accumulated over the last few years? I’m tempted to copy some of my posts, etc. Any word on what happened to our illustrious founder, James? I must say that I tried many times over that last year plus to contact him on email–wherein we had once corresponded–yet no reply. I do hope he is all right, as I’m sure many of you are concerned as well. Checked out the sister site. It looks great! Looking forward to more interaction for years to come.
Be well,
Gary (Calif Guv)
One & All,
James is still on the scene, see above post 20.09.11, and the website domain has been renewed.
So please stay onboard and await further news.
Safe rides, DW.
Geoff,
The site domain may have been renewed, but will it be updated? The current front page dates Feb 18th!
