Snap. Snap! Will be there.
Recently had a shot of mine from last
years run featured in ‘Brook’s’ Daily Bugle
magazine. Fine publication!
Ride on!

Fenrir February 18, 2011 at 1:12 pm

Yes, I’ll be trying my best for a place. Wifey isn’t going to come, so I’ll be on my lonesome.

Adam February 18, 2011 at 11:39 pm

Evening Gentlemen,
Hell’s teeth! what are the odds? We already have arrangements for that weekend, I can see talking to people nicely and a possible cancellation is on the cards.
Regards,
Adam

Fenrir February 21, 2011 at 8:44 am

Adam – always the way with this sort of thing. I had miss last year to something I really couldn’t get out of. Still got to scramble for a place on Saturday, mind.

Adam February 22, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Evening Gentlemen,

All is not yet lost, Mrs Adam is hatching plans…

Adam February 26, 2011 at 11:41 am

Morning Gentlemen,
A little “Heads Up” it appears registration opens up at 11:55 not 12 noon.
Regards,
Adam

Afternoon Gentlemen,

Is it time for a role call?

Myself No. 345

I got in, but the second person I wanted register couldn’t. Seems as though spaces went in the blink of an eye.

Adam February 26, 2011 at 12:17 pm

Yes, my password was too long, by the time I had re-entered my details 286 places had gone.
Looking forward to meeting you, time for a bit of grovelling regarding our other arrangements, if we can’t get out of I’ll pass my place on to your friend (Although Mrs Adam thinks we should be completely un-ethical, put them on eBay and retire to the south of France on the proceeds).
Regards,
Adam

Hmmm……..out of interest I logged into the Tweed Run registration page at the stroke of noon, all places gone! How many GOC members were lucky enough to secure a place?
Safe rides, DW.

Fenrir February 26, 2011 at 12:25 pm

Most kind of you Adam.

Must admit that ebay had crossed my mind too, seeing as how many were disappointed.

James February 26, 2011 at 1:03 pm

Alas, no run for me this year…

The Cycling Photographer February 26, 2011 at 1:11 pm

Gentlemen, well done to those who succeeded, commiserations to those that did not.
I have been seconded as official snapper for the event. Let’s hope good weather is on hand like last year! Ride on!

Adam February 26, 2011 at 1:19 pm

Calamity! Obviously if Mrs Adam and I can’t get out of our prior arrangements I’m more than happy to pass the place on. The Villa in the South of France can wait another year.
Hopefully we can meet up at a G.O.C. soiree later in the year?
Regards,
Adam

No 353. Tried to register a second rider and all places gone by 12.07!!. Now just need to find some suitable attire. Have the jacket sorted. Charity shops here I come.

David Terry February 26, 2011 at 5:28 pm

Oops! forgot all about it in spite of the fact that I’m having a tweed jacket made. What a clot I am.
Have fun.

One & All,
Well, as I expected, the London ‘Tweed Run’ application proceedure was a complete shambles using online registration!
Five hundred places minus ten for the organisers minus an unknown number for invited pre-registration code places? Also bringing the registration opening time forward five minutes at the eleventh hour, its was a recipe for disappointment for many would be participants.
I must say I rather agree with a comment posted on the Tweed Run Facebook by Teresa Stokes, “In keeping with the old fashioned nature of the event, postal applications would be much fairer, to be drawn out of a tweed hat after the closing date”.
Food for thought!
Safe rides, DW.

Adam February 27, 2011 at 6:33 pm

Evening,
A little harsh Mr. Wheeler.
The event is only in it’s third year (second on any scale), organised and run by volunteers in aid of Bikes for Africa, of course mistakes are made, the event last year was not flawless but for me this added to the charm.

Surely a drawback to postal registration is someone has got to open the correspondence, make the draw, contact the successful applicants, collect the due payment and then arrange delivery of the packs.

If you go to the Tweed Run website they have posted an explanation as to why the registration time was moved forwards.

People have been quick enough to criticize the organisers, however I’ve not yet seen anyone take up the baton and organise a similar event in their home city.

Please don’t think I’m being defensive on behalf of the organisers because Mrs Adam and I have been lucky enough to get two places on the ride, we both signed up in hope rather than expectation.

Regards,

Adam

Fenrir February 27, 2011 at 8:39 pm

You’d have to trust to the post office, which defines shambles……..

Apparently there were no pre registrations other than the 10 organisers and such.

Duchy Wheeler February 28, 2011 at 10:20 am

One & All,

One thing’s for sure, the Tweed Run has become a victim of its own success!
Trust those of you lucky enough to have secured a place on the Run have a Grand Day Out in the metropolis.

Safe rides, DW.

Fenrir February 28, 2011 at 11:32 am

I reckon it’ll be proper tickets and priced accordingly next year.

Martin Young February 28, 2011 at 7:35 pm

Good evening, one and all

I first came across the Guv’nor on last years Tweed Run and I was instantly smitten. It was with hope, not expectation that I registered for this years outing, and I was extremely pleased to become rider number 149. I promised myself that if I was successful then I would treat myself to one of these beautiful bicycles, and I have just picked it up this afternoon. I love it! I am very much looking forward to April 9th, and hope to meet up with some of you on this day!

All my best,
Martin

Adam February 28, 2011 at 8:01 pm

Evening Gentlemen,

Mr. Wheeler I’ve just re-read my post and feel it may come across a little terse, this was not my intention at all please accept my apologise if I caused offence.

Martin, what an excellent excuse to purchase a Guv’ welcome, hopefully we’ll meet up at some point on the ride.

Regards,
Adam

Fenrir March 10, 2011 at 9:35 am

Tweed Run facebook and twitter sites are supposed to be giving away pairs of tickets today. Could be worth a try for those who missed out.

Martin Young March 10, 2011 at 10:31 am

Just seen that Fenrir, the first competition is on their Facebook page now:

http://www.facebook.com/TweedRun

Best of luck, gentlemen!

Martin Young March 17, 2011 at 4:40 pm

To any gentlemen without a ticket and wishing to pursue a place on this year’s Tweed Run, there is another competition for three pairs on the Aubin and Wills blog. Best of luck!

Kind regards,
Martin

Adam April 8, 2011 at 9:38 pm

Evening Gentlemen,
For those riding tomorrow, at the risk of sounding like your mother, don’t forget to take a little to drink and eat.
It’s not far but it is a fairly timely ride with the only sustenance the odd cucumber sandwich and a cup of tea.
Regards,
Adam
