Toulouse-Lautrec and the Simpson chain

Cycle Michael’ sketch rejected for Simpson chain advertising poster

La Chaine Simpson’, the approved poster

More on this marvellous-looking contraption on Wikipedia. The first poster depicts champion cyclist Jimmy Michael from Wales, the second shows the French long distance professional Constant Huret.

Toulouse-Lautrec, a passionate cycling fan, was sadly unable to ride himself.

I must say that the Guvnor is the most beautiful bike I have ever seen. I admire the craftsmanship of cars, motorcycles and bicycles…they really are works of art some of them, but this bike is a true champion of design and character. I am waiting for the time when I can get hold of a used Guv’ because as a working stiff I don’t think I’ll ever be able to afford one out of the box…but, in the words of Fats Waller, “One never knows–do one?”

Evening Mr. Ferrari III,
The Guv certainly is a handsome bike, and the forum seems to have some jolly decent chaps on it too.
Regards,
Adam
