Good morning Gentlemen,

Rumours abound, but it has been suggested that the autumnal Tweed Run in London is to take place on Saturday November 26th. May I suggest all members wishing to bag a place, to brush up on their keyboard skills starting from today. Online registration for the 500 places on Aprils jaunt were gone within 3 minutes. Let’s see those fingers!

Kind regards,

Martin

Evening Gentlemen,

How terribly exciting, Mr. Martin I trust you are not starting these rumours for ones own entertainment? Whipping ones fellow riders up into a fever pitch.

Adam

Just wondering, gents, why haven’t any 2011 pictures been posted on the London Tweed Run site?

It makes my day to see what a real Tweed Run looks like and you Brits do it best!  Our Tweed Rides are pale comparisons.

Good afternoon Gentlemen (unless you are in Mr Adam’s timezone, then I shall lob in a ‘good evening’, and may I finish with a ‘good morning’ to Mr Red Stateside),

Mr MGcC, judging from previous Tweed Runs, the registration usually opens about six weeks before the event… with plenty of notice before that. Nothing in black and white as yet. Sign up for announcements, if you felt so minded, at:

http://tweedrun.com/

Mr Adam, I like to believe I am a man of integrity… jolly japes here and there by myself is a given, but when it comes down to the serious business of Tweed and indeed Tweed Runs– then there is no room for tomfoolery. ‘Tis from a reliable source, old stick– hand on my pocket square!

Mr Red, kind words Sir, but yes: the Tweed Run site is lacking a little in the realm of updates, and Lord Teddy knows this. I should imagine when he is not art directing shoots for Brooks he’ll be out turning the pedal on his Mercian, so for that I am sure we can forgive him. May I suggest you take a look at Mark from I Bike London’s blog for a rather splendid write up of this year’s spring event, containing both still and moving pictures:

http://ibikelondon.blogspot.co.….11_11.html

and maybe this fine offering from The Gentle Author at Spitalfields Life:

http://spitalfieldslife.com/20.….cycle-run/

If the above hasn’t satiated your appetite, then a google search for “Flickr Tweed Run London 2011″ should bring just about every image to the fore.

Kind regards,

Martin

SlyRed.….….….interesting you highlight this lack of content on ‘The Tweed Run’ website, I have found the organisation rather elusive, seemingly going to ground between events. I have tried contacting them recently on a sales related topic but never had a response!

The Tweed Run appears to be fronted by Ted Young-Ing who is also involved with Brooks, being one of their Bloggers “Dandy Ted”. I’ve also tried contacting him via Brooks for route information on the ‘2010 Brooks Picnic Ride’ which he organised, again no response.

So I’m guessing the answer is he’s been too busy organising the Tuscany, New York and the rumoured November London events?

Safe rides ‘One & All’.

DW.

Interesting news Mart, any idea of the registration date? After the Spring trundle, I think you’ve set the bar with that bowler hat — I’m probably going to invest in one.

Good evening Gentlemen,

Mr Fenrir, no information regarding the registration date as yet– the 26th is something being bandied around as a possibility, nothing concrete at this moment in time. If I hear anything, then I will post on the forum as soon as. If you’re after a bowler, may I suggest Christys’? I purchased mine from this company based in Chester and York, great customer service and lightning quick on no quibble returns if you find you have ordered the wrong size:

I’ll be doing the same, Mr MGcC– fingers crossed for a large Guvnor turnout for this one… my stomach’s churning already at the thought of bagging a place.

Kind regards,

Martin

You know chaps, I’m wondering whether bowler hats would qualify as suitable “helmet” wear for a sportive event. I’m sure I’ve seen horse riding types using them ?

I’ll vouch for their resilience. I’ll tell you here and now, if a house happened to land upon my head whilst wearing my trusty bowler, I wouldn’t feel a thing. They’re as hard as nails.

There is a certain bicycle shop who I won’t mention by name on account of receiving incredibly rude customer service on my first (and last) visit that is based in Islington which sells a cycle specific bowler helmet. It is on a comedy scale, though. It’s enormous.

What, everything? The night I came home from Pongo Twistleton’s birthday party and mistook the standing lamp for a burglar?

Splendid Mr Fossil, splendid.

Now then, if your wardrobe is lacking in items of the woollen weave, may I suggest this company which I have used myself? Very attentive customer service, wonderful to deal with. And a nice choice of tweeds. I got a five piece (consisting of flat cap, coat, waistcoat, plus two’s and long trouser) from here for the first Tweed Run for just under £250– bang on. And I am still wearing it today: a praiseworthy investment, I think you’ll agree.

…and for those of you who are feeling a little flush, by which case I am not I hasten to add, but I am seriously considering a diet of stale bread and gruel for the next three months so that I may be able to afford a three piece suit from these fine outfitters based in Holt, Norfolk:

Old Town is run by Will Brown and Miss Willey (she used to be a Saturday girl at Woolies, don’t you know), and they make the most beautiful, functional clothes I have ever seen. Take a look at the link to get an idea of what they’re about, if you’re not already familiar:

http://slowcoast.co.uk/soundsl.…..php?id=76

I myself am hoping to go for the Fitzrovia coat, classic Waistcoast and High Rise trouser in Harris Tweed ready to wear for the upcoming Tweed Run. It’s going to be a bleak three months on the culinary front, I fear.

Kind regards,

Martin

Old Town is a fine emporium. Steer clear of The Marshalsea though!
I had ‘some people’ come for dinner a while ago. The evening progressed onto
a Magic Lantern Show of my images from this years Tweed Run. My guests, somewhat rudely I thought,
tittered at some of the characters seen. One of the guests, wearing a hight street suit, asked, “and where
did you obtain your costume. A charity store?”. I bit hard onto my pipe mouth piece and just managed
to restrain myself from placing my tamper somewhere unsightly and ushered the group to my dressing room.
On opening the various doors of wardrobes, my guests stood agog!
The view of gentlemens clothing, mostly TWEED, soon made the cheeky blighters fall into line and apologise.
My Christmas card list will be a little shorter this year.…..
Mr. Martin, abstinence works well for the soul, figure and pocket. Make sure you keep up your vegetables with the
gruel. Vitamins are a must for ones complexion!
P.S. Mr. Martin, what a wonderful site Slowcoast is! Well found, Bravo!

(chortle)  Sir, I would not dream of stepping between a Gentleman and his Marshalsea coat: you have staked your claim and that will most certainly be respected.

I’m very glad to hear your dinner guest’s chaffing was silenced by your wardrobe. Tisk tisk, I have never heard of such behaviour!

And worry not, I shall make sure I get my RDA of vitamins. These ruddy cheeks of mine could not survive on gruel alone.

And Slowcoast is rather nice, isn’t? Marvellous little thing.

Kind regards,

Martin

Old Town seems to have a quite a good selection of outfits. Further investigation needed into that one.

Fenrir agreed.….…..‘Old Town’ certainly don’t cater for the ‘MAMIL’ (middle aged men in Lycra), maybe the ‘MAMIT’, which is more the GOC style?

Martin.….…..good link to this traditonal clothier, bang on!

Safe rides ‘One & All’.
