The piece also illustrate a technique I mentioned sometime ago.

Following my last post on this subject, I devised this arrangement to try and stop my saddle being pinched again, without resorting to messy bits of chain etc…

I replaced the seatpost clamp with an M8 stainless steel security torx bolt and a shear nut — they are available on ebay and come with a machined shoulder so that the hexagon part of the nut shears off when you tighten it, leaving just a domed part behind.

I also replaced the Nyloc nuts on the saddle clamp with shear nuts to stop anyone taking the saddle off the post. Obviously this means that adjusting the saddle is now impossible, but since I’m the only person who uses the bike, I’m not too fussed! I’ve done the same on my wife’s Pashley Poppy too as a pre-emptive measure.

I’m also considering replacing the bolt on the rear torque arm with a torx head fitting to make the rear wheel harder to pinch.

I like the idea in the blog of autographing the underside of the saddle with permanent marker, I should have done that before bolting it all together!

The bike isn’t as tatty as it looks, the flash on my iphone seems to highlight every speck of dust and scratch.
