Hi all,

I’ve had my Guv’nor for a little under a year now and am having problems with the paint work. The seat stay was replaced about 3 months ago (after much “polite conversation” with the dealer and an e-mail to Pashley) as the paint was coming away around the attachment points. When adjusting the chain tension the other day I noticed the same problem on the chain stay under the axel washers. The dealer acts as if this is normal so I’m wandering what other Pashley owners think.

I’ve not experienced this problem on other bikes; scratches – yes, but not cracking and pealing. I’m guessing both the dealer and Pashley would be reluctant to fix the problem this time as it would mean stripping and respraying. Am I just being unrealistic in my expectations of paint durability or is the dealer fobbing me off?

I’d be glad of any advice as you all seem like such knowledgable bike tinkerer types.

Jay.

Jay, welcome.

I am neither knowledgeable nor much of a tinkerer, but having ridden a Guvnor in all weathers for 2 years I can say that cracking and peeling paint is certainly not normal. I do have plenty of dinks and scratches, and while I wouldn’t read too much into paint disappearing under the pressure of the axle washers, I would if it is coming off in less stressed locations.
