Hi,

Since I got my Guvnor I have a Bee in my bonnet to build a Path racer type bike. Wanted it to get the Guvnor 2 look.

Found a 60s CCM Reynolds 531 frame for $50 & going to nickel plate it for a 20s feel. Found a nice set of new rims & delta cruiser tires for $220 built with a Shimano coaster brake. Velo Orange bars $29, head set $29, have a stem cinelli & ordered a IRD Defiant 144 Track Crank $170. Should be cool when done. Oh, this is a very light bike, feels like 1/2 the weight of my Guvnor?

Evening Tex Amps,

It looks like it will be an interesting build. I think most the weight in the Guv comes from the steel rims, still once the old boy is rolling he takes a lot of stopping.

What ho Chaps ,

that will be a very fine velo Tex ,

and as to the weight of the Guv’nor , I’m affraid to say the the rims are alloy , It must be the combined weight of the spokes and tyre + hub .

I am in possetion of a pair of NOS chromed steel rims  that I have lined up for the rebuild of my 1935 Tourist All-Weather Model No7.

Though I might deveiate from the original and make it a Super Sports

What, everything? The night I came home from Pongo Twistleton’s birthday party and mistook the standing lamp for a burglar?

Hi,

Update on CCM 531 build, can’t nickel plate because of some rust around the bottom bracket. Oh well, powder coat in Black gloss $150, wanted British racing green but other colours $250… so black it is.

That’s outrageous!  My powdercoater (Powdercoat Studio in Traverse City, Michigan) charges the same for all standard colors.  Someone is ripping off their customers. Yell

It’s the hubs that weigh a lot.   Heaviest wheelset I’ve ever built.  Red

Awful carpet? I don’t like it either but it’s only my basement shop.

PS: DW, Thanks for the decal hook-up & your wing-nuts are great on my Guvnor!

Nice build Texamps…don’t you love it when a plan comes together.…very nice and neat indeed!

Powder coat black is a great colour to capture the period, and a very durable finish too. What are doing for brakes? Braking hardware will make or break the final look — the less clutter the better!

I also leave my partly built bikes in the house for everyone to see.

James

PS I like your carpet!Wink
