Sirs, relax. Relax. This is a time for education not beration!
As can be seen in this photographic montage, corks can be eased into place
the right way up. All depends ofcourse on Vintage and brand. (In this instance, Moet).
However, in times like these when even the wealthiest are squeaking, can I suggest an alternative?
The non-country called Belgium do produce some rather fine beers and a certain
corked brand seems to be the right caliber for the rear bottle-top stays on a Guvnor.
No one need be any the wiser, apart from Wilkins my valet. If he does find out, a
crate of Makeson usually helps the chap forget!
I hope this helps gentlemen. Do try and opt for the real thing though. Treat the Bottle-Top
like a young filly. Tease and ease! Don’t try this with a cigar though.… look how William Clinton ended up!
Ride on!

I sir am not convinced by your clever southern tongue… are you sure this is not just some “london” thing having your cork so displayed ?

… I for one being from the “norf” am happy to “stick my cork in” the way God intended it … “big end down” Wink

Dear Mr. MGC, re-tune your Garmin thingy by some miles west. I reside in the Cotswolds having only to visit

Hogarth’s Bedlem once in a while. The only reason one can think of regarding the orientation of your cork

is due to the magnetic aberration in your northern area! No offence meant. One’s concern that should you join

the throng of Guvnor’s,say at The Tweed Run, you should gird your rear when ‘crusing’ through certain parts of town

with an inverse stopper!

Ride on!

Good evening Gentlemen,

Thank you all for you kind comments regarding the movie.

I am particularly pleased that you enjoyed the show too Mr. Cycling Photographer, that’s most excellent praise indeed, thank you very much indeed, Sir!

On the subject of corks. Well, this southerner and ex Londoner stuck his cork in sideways. And lost both on their maiden voyage…

So please don’t ask for my opinion on cork orientation.

Mr. MG (aka ‘The Speed King’), please feel free to grab any pics you like. Especially as most picture you leading the Pashley peleton anyway. A perfectly accurate reflection of our New Forest Rattler as I recall.

I was extremely nervous when prior to the start of the Rattler, I heard you and the Ghost discussing that we would be “taking it easy” and only get an average speed of 15 mph.

I didn’t have the courage to tell you both that I was delighted with my recent performance on a training ride. A personal best record, an average speed of 14.1 mph…

Over ten miles! Not seventy bloody nine…

Yes, I can see your point about Daniel Craig, I suspect he will have a clause in the movie contract for at least 3 mins of said Sir wearing his ‘budgie smugglers’. In the film I fear they will rewrite the “Rattler” as a three day triathlon, giving Mr 007 every opportunity to get his kit off.

They will probably approach you to be his body double, on any scene where he is riding the Guv.

Warm regards

Rich

I must say I didn’t think I was taking it easy , I strugled through most of it , and I thought I was a ghost by the end ‚LOL

Rich.….…..epic stuff from “Bang On Films”, I await your next production, I suppose it will be in 3D with surround sound!

Good to see Fossil, MGcC and yourself in merino wool, an oasis amongst the Lycra, well done ‘One & All’.

Safe rides, DW.

Dear Mr. Wheeler, happy to hear you enjoyed the movie.

I still have a bit to go with updating my wardrobe to match the Guv’s style. You’ll be pleased to know I have bought a more conservative pair of sunglasses since the Rattler. I did try out a pair of Persol 714 shades, as favoured by Steve McQueen, but the £280 price tag was a little steep, in the end I got a nice pair of black Oakley Polaroids from a Oakley outlet in Portsmouth for half price at £60, which although not classic vintage, I think are a step in the right direction.

Next on the list is some fine shoes as modeled by my esteemed Rattler colleagues… well at least I know what I want for Christmas!

Mr. Fossil and Mr. MG, yes we did get our hot dogs and I think we thoughroughly deserved them! It was a real pleasure to be part of the team. Hopefully we can try repeating this next year (and bring a few more members along for the ride too).

Warm regards

Rich

Well Gentlemen… as for more members throwing their hats in for next years event, I’ve heard rumours that the Rattler chaps are planning to get “camping” on site for 2012 !!!.… now there can be no excuse for the “northern division” not to come marauding south through Hampshire ( cough… I mean riding in the beautiful southern county of Hampshire !)

Gentlemen,

Bloody hell, no more marauding northerners in Hampshire! The Management is from Geordieland, surely that is enough?

Seriously, it would be great to see some of our Northern members having a crack at this. It will allow me even greater slip streaming possibilities than in our last jaunt.Wink

Also, Mr. Fossil, I forgot to ask you at the time. What is the secret to your gleaming bell? Please tell!

Warm regards

Rich

Love the hilarious banter!

Seems like there is commonality amongst us all and I think it would be fabulous if more and more of us could get together de temps en temps — I would like to think this thing is gathering momentum and from my experience thus far, the chaps I have met and spent cycling time and Youth Hostel dormitaries with  (not in the Biblical sense I hasten to add) are a bunch of thoroughly good eggs.

It is refreshing in this day and age to be able to exchange a bit of banter and experience old fashioned values (which I think a lot of Guvnor owners relish) and I for one would like to see more get togethers — perhaps meet some of you southern wallers and discuss the relative merits of pork pies and jellied eels!

So then Gentlemen — have we a quorum on the possibility of a monthly meeting?

I have already mooted the idea of an October, November and Christmas Holly Run — any further thoughts on the matter?

Good morning Mr. Fossil,

Thanks for that, much appreciated! Maybe Mrs. S will pop out for some Autosol and then give my ding-a-ling a good seeing too…

Dear Mr. Booster,

Sounds like a great plan. Have any locations for these said monthly rides been discussed?

I am still contemplating signing up for the Giro d’Stoke ride… and, a week later there is another date added for the New Forest 100 Sportive on Saturday, 1st October.  Quite tempted to have a crack at both. These sportive malarkys are pretty addictive!

Warm regards

Rich

Good afternoon Gentlemen,

Mr Senior, just to provide you with that little bit of extra encouragement… the Giro d’Stokio sportive is approximately 23 miles less than the Rattler you completed last week. It’ll be a cinch (cue a shifty sideways look and a nervous cough from myself). Go on, Sir. You know you want to.

Kind regards,

Martin
