They replaced the rear cog because I was getting a clunking sound especially when climbing. I am not sure what exactly was wrong with it, but the replacement (18T) seems to have fixed the issue. Glad to hear your pleased with your new sprocket. Hope you enjoy many miles with it!
I have just given my bike a wash and brush up after the Rattler and noticed that when rotating the chain backwards at certain points of the revolution the pedal is more resistant to move, I am wondering if this is normal or do I need to visit my LBS again? Could it be that the rear hub brakes don’t like going in reverse?
Rich.….…..just a few thoughts.….…..I wonder whether the original clunking was in fact related to the problem you had with the TAYA connecting link failure?
With regard to the transmission resistance, I can only suggest that if you can establish where the source of the resistance is, then that would be helpful in identifying the problem, could be chain wheel to sprocket alignment, bearing in mind the replacement sprocket isn’t a Sturmey Archer original equipment part, or may simply be that the chain is too tight?
So it might be another visit to your LBS, it depends on how proficient you are at cycle fettling.
