Evening Chaps,

Just wanted to doff my cap as I am new on the forum.  My Guv and I will be representing our London cycle tour company on the Tweed Run, so will hopefully see some of you there.  On that note, if I may just say that if anyone you know happens to be short of a cycle for the Run, please get in touch!  I have a fleet of Pashley Roadsters and Princesses available.

Hello Jack, I’m sure you’ll have a good Tweed Run, enjoy yourself.

I’m also sure that you’ll end up riding with a veritable peloton of Guv’nor Owners Club members.  Especially if you could kindly supply some of your fleet of Pashley Princesses to local trollops so they may act as “domestiques”.

Have fun.

Hello David and Fenrir,

I didnt want to risk being ‘shown the door’ on my first post… some forums seem to be quite harsh on commercial plugs no matter how pertinent.  But since you asked, its Tally Ho! Cycle Tours and we are based down by Waterloo Station (SE1 7LH).  Our ‘tour’ aspect hasnt lauched yet as we are still recruiting for guides, but our lovely Pashleys are available for hire!

How is one to recognise a Guvnor Owners Club Chap — dispite the obvious? Is there a secret handshake, bell ring or wave of the cap?

Morning Jack,

Without wishing to speak out of turn, our esteemed leader James, seems fairly tolerant of such things as long as they have a certain style and panache (James please correct me if this is not the case).

With regards to recognising me at the soiree I think I’ll probably stand out like a sore thumb, I’ll be the one in Tweed Breeks and a moustache.

Regards,

Adam

I’d recommend wearing at least a string vest too, if chilly.

Afternoon Gentlemen,

Mr Terry, I was thinking more Hi-NRG than pit worker, I’ve heard tell that’s how Londoners dress.

Mr Photographer, I’m sure you’ll look simply devine.

Adam

Well it certainly sounds like it will be a colourful event, warm or otherwise! Can anyone reccommend a modestly priced purveyor of tweed in central London?

On another note, I have been carrying my Guvnor up six flights of stairs each night and ceremonially laying him in the corner of the living room with great love and tenderness — a nessesary practice as I do not yet have a decent lock.  Sadly, my lady does not agree with this practice, some trivial complaint about muck on the carpet, and she has now insisted the old boy be kept outside.  I have seen another slightly worrying post on the issues surrounding locking a Guvnor.  How do you Gentlemen secure your cycles? Is there a particular mechanism you have found to be effective?  Your advice would be appreciated.

Looking forward to collecting my Run pack today. Hurrah!

Dear Sir, I sympathise with your predicament. Although not perfectly devoid of

cads that take delight in robbing honest hard working folk, I live in the countryside

and find life a little easier. My Guv’ is kept in it’s own stable with the other machines.

I would take a strong stance on this with your woman. The Guvnor is a work of art.

I suggest you install a pair of hooks, gilt if she prefers, and hang the machine in a

prominent place in your home. Lighting should be subtle but complimentary.

Should she like the idea, suggest it being put over the fire place, just above a vase

you will also buy at the same time as the hooks, that you will faithfully fill with flowers

for her every week.

Result: safe Guvnor, happy woman.

Ride on!

Mr Cycling Photographer,

Soloman himself could not have put it better.  Indeed, yours must be a truely harmonious abode!  Alas an incident occured yesterday which undermind my position and reluctantly I am resigned to buy a colossal lock and store my Guv outside.  Put simply, the front tube exploded blowing the tyre off the wheel.  Earlier that day I had topped up the tyre pressure in a cold environment whereupon bringing my precious cycle inside the air slowly expanded.  To my frustration, it had not occured to me to let some air out.  However, this incident did provide me with my first opportunity to whip my King Dick spanner out and pull the old boy apart!

Mr. Jack,

What pressure do you pump your tyres too? You’re not a deep sea diver per chance?

With regards to tethering bikes I use this http://www.torc-anchors.com/sh.….hackle.php obviously the Guv resides in the Dining room, but the multi-geared numbers are banished.

Adam

Jack, if you have a look at the Online store at http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk the motorcycle accessories company, there are plenty of sturdy locks to choose from. Look in the Technical section.  Perhaps a cheap cover may be a good idea too. They have several shops in the London area.

Mr Jack, I have just had a distressed enquiry from a Ms Møller through my Facebook page enquiring after contacts of a bicycle hire nature for the Tweed Run. I duly furnished this good lady with your Tally Ho! website address. Hope to bump into you on The Glorious 9th, sir.

Kind regards,

Martin

Good morning all!

Mr Adam — I thought 55psi wasnt too extreme… hardly a case for the bends, but as a precaution I have now taken to decompressing upon arrival into the living room.

Mr Terry — Many thanks for the advice, urban camoflage has been ordered.

Mr Martin — I really appreciate the referral and your approval on the great Book of Faces!  Your Sacred Landscape Society sounds facinating and I should like to hear more about it on the 9th.

Its glorious morning and time for a ride.

Tally Ho!

Gentlemen, your comments have had me in tucks!

Jack and the “histoire” of the six flights of stairs and subsequent members’ advice is very entertaining.

I look forward to more jovial banter!

Best Regards

Wertie
