Evening Gentlemen, I came across this chaps rather interesting collection of old cyclist photographs. (you can also click back to the chaps homepage, to view an extensive collection of his very interesting collection of Victorian material in general)

I have to say, and much discussed between myself and Mr Booster over numerous fine ales, that the Govnor looks far more Edwardian in design than a 30s design… Wink

…and from the same collection, this image completely amazed me. Look at the design, sloping top tube, long seat post, tall head… this is basically the “modern” compact frame design, invented in the last 10 years… only point being this photograph is circ c.1900 !!!

I too had some glass plate negatives from the same era showing similar things: sloping top tube,

long seat post, tall head, and other things. The Vice Squad nearly ruined me!

Ride on!

Hello ,

in case, for information, those particular very thin bicycles are named “Safety” less dangerous than the “Penny-Farthing” or “Grand-Bi”.

They are the link between the giant wheel  off the “Grand-Bi” and our contemporary cycles.

Look at the special head stem, not in tube .

A good link: http://www.veliciousbicycles.c.….bel/safety
