I would like to share my experience of a little bit of fettling that I recently undertook over the bank holiday weekend.
I purchased a Lucas dynamo light set from a ebay user for the sum of £30.00 with the intention of using its dynamo function. I wasn’t too happy with the appearance of a dynamo bottle on my Guvnor so I decided to convert the headlight to battery powered LED.
I visited my local Maplin store and purchased a small switch and waterproof cover for around £4 as well as a torch identical to the one in the link above for £3. On my return journey I called in to see my father with the hidden agenda of making off with his glue gun and soldering iron when he had his back turned.
To cut a long (but very interesting) story short the conversion was a success. If I can find my camera I will upload some photos asap. I think this is one way of creating a very appropriately matched headlight for the bicycle.
If anyone would like a lucas bottle dynamo bottle (i.e. no lights) I now have one surplus to my needs.
A warm welcome to you Mr Hallam, and what a fascinating post as your debut– congratulations, good fellow! This link really is a find, and a project to happily while away an hour or two in the comfort of the shed. Marvellous.
Many thanks for the welcome! Yes it proved to be a very good little project and if only I had done it in the shed. Unfortunately in my infinite wisdom I did it on the dining room table when ‘er up stairs’ wasn’t paying attention! She’s still peeling glue off at the moment!
