Sorry to stray from the path, but I was wondering if I might ask the esteemed gentlemen of the group their thoughts regarding Pashley’s Country Clubman. I know some members do have other bikes, including new-fangled ones.

Regards and safe riding.

Dear Minusfour, the Clubman Country is a lovely cycle. Ideal for the Harold Briercliffe/Claire Balding types planning invigorating and educational trips across country.

However, bear in mind that, for the price of one of those, one could purchase a Guv’nor and have enough cash left over to buy, for instance, any of the following. An i-pad, a monumental hangover, a cheap suit, an expensive .22 air rifle, an enjoyable weekend in Bishops Stortford, a miserable weekend in London or a pair of Trickers brogues  along with several pairs of cashmere socks.

And I would’nt be in any way surprised if most of the chaps on this forum followed me down the Guv’nor/headache route.

A most amusing riposte but in all seriousness consider this.….….…… what if said prospective Clubman buyer wakes up with a monumental hangover after following your advice, then - rolls over in bed and his eyes alight on what can only be described as the beauty of the Guv’nor — job done says he .….….….….….….…… he stands and stares at the Guv one more time before donning a silken robe and a rather natty smoking hat — perhaps similar to this one

http://www.scran.ac.uk/databas.….-469–113-C

then stumbling to the bath room cabinet for a ‘Seltzer’  finds a pristine Clubman in the bath.….….….

Perhaps he is better off purchasing the Guvnor and the air rifle Smile

Gents,

It was always going to be a matter of time before conversation turned to smoking caps. I have my eye on this:

Purple, je pense, to go with my Rapha/Paul Smith jersey…

Smoking caps on.

Hello Minus four

I can not comment on the Country but do have an Urban and can say it is a very nice bike, Different to the Guvnor but just

as special. I have owned the Urban for about 2 months now and have ridden it more than the Guvnor in those two months

but it is only because it is a new toy. They are both nice to ride in there own way. The Urban is lighter but i think the Guvnor

rolls better. The fixed drive took a bit of getting the hang of, its been 40 years since i last went down a hill standing on one

pedal. The gearing was a bit low for me and lower than advertised, I changed the 46t for a 50t which made it good for my location. I also had to change the Guvnor gearing as well. If the wife told me to get rid of one of them it would be a hard one to choose.…..

I would probley get rid of the wife.….….….….…..

Re the Country Clubman: can anybody explain or justify the £500 premium for 16 gears over 2 or 3 and a set of mudguards??

Perplexed,

And only 105 gears at that. It’s a ludicrous price differential.
