Hello “Guv-lovers”.

Have anyone of you experience this sort of pieces (or same), specially on a three speed?

I have. Something very similar was used on me at school back in the late 60’s/early 70’s.

Very effective but hurt like hell!

Thank you dear C.P.

What “hurt like hell”.?

You think it’s not a good idea to hang right the Guv’nor cycle chain ?

Ian,

I think TCP is having a joke! British humour.

In the UK these are know as ‘chain tugs’. For more comment take a look in the Forum > The Public House > Chain Tugs, currently on page 13.

There could be an issue with the type pictured on the 3 speed model, a less bulky type may be better.

Safe rides ‘One & All’.

Dear Ian & DW, I think the term is ‘lost in translation’!

Ian, a little private school humour more akin to Tom Browne’s School days.

I believe a character from the book, a nasty chap called Flashman, is now prime

minister here in England.……

To my information is it possible to translate in french what’ does it means in english?  One day , one thing learning.

I think my response was triggered by the fact that I went to a comp’ (as opposed to a public school) we couldnt afford expensive devices to inflict pain or humiliation :-). Humiliation or pain subsidised by the state - in those days — was on the cheap!Wink

greetings dear fellows (please excuse the lack of capitals my blackberry seems to ack functionalty here)

i have a set of pretty chunky dmr tugs (for bmx) on my 3 speed and they work fine, the only issue is the sight hole for setting the gear toggle is off center by roughly 4mm however the end of the axle is still visible.

hope that helps.

Gentlemen, all of a sudden I too find myself requiring chain tugs. Not for the Guv, although I may be tempted.  Another restoration project was purchased the other day, this one’s a fixie. The chain tugs have gone in the bin along with all the other manky, unusable bits.

The frame (alloy) and the forks (carbon) have gone to the renowned Leeds framebuilder  http://www.bobjacksoncycles.co.uk  for a re-paint and components are being hunted down. Stay tuned for a creamy-coloured, skinny-tyred, fixed-gear, path-racer Guv-a-like.

Mr Schloopfeng, could we see a photo of your DMR chain tugs in-situ, please.

I’ll be over on http://www.cycleexif.com looking for and stealing ideas.

Gentlemen, I’ve just bought a pair of these little beauties, MKS CA-MK10 is the part no.  Not cheap at £15 each but extremely well engineered. As you’ll see, the part that fits around the axle is only 1mm thick so fitting them to a 3-speed Guv should not be a problem. I’ll give them a try when I get time.

Mr MGCC, I bought them at Spa Cycles in Harrogate, a good, old fashioned bike shop/workshop.  http://www.spacycles.co.uk

They fit to the axle of my fixie project perfectly but they’re (very slightly) too small for the axle on my three-speed Guv. A bit of judicious filing/Dremelling and on they’ll go. I’ll probably order another set once the fixie’s on the road. If the axle on a single-speed Guv is smaller than on a three-speed they should fit straight on.

MGCC, they fit axles up to 10mm and are available in 5mm for steel frames or 8mm for alloy frames.
