Evening Gentlemen,

I was in the office today, Mrs Adam telephoned to raise her concerns over the lack of Hendricks and could I do the decent thing and pick a bottle up whilest I was on my lunch.

Then the conversation took an unfortunate turn, “So?” Mrs. Adam started the next sentence “Have you been ordering anything for you bike?” I tried to deny any knowledge but when I got home I was confronted with this:

Hay! ho!

I’ll just have to keep plying the Old Girl with gin.

Regards,

Adam

Hmm. Mr. Adam, a little slow off the mark, I fear. One should have

pandered to your dear lady and told her that your idea of a gift from

messrs. Rigby and Peller wouldn’t have been right for her, “sending it back”, and presented a

huge bunch of flowers. Meanwhile the said item could have been spirited away

to the garage, and fitted whilst she enjoyed a box of finest Belgian delights whilst

watching Emmerdale.

BTW. Mr. McGregor has been spotted at Wells Cathedral, along with others, starting on a

project for Warner Bros. films. I think the Goatie growth seen at the Tweed Run was a clue to

the nature of his part and the film: Jack the Giant Killer.……

Get the angle right. They will look better on the Guv’ rather than Mrs.A!

Ride on!

Good morning gents and Mr Adam in partic,

If I did not know better I would swear that is a pair of Soma Lauterwasser handlebars in that discreet wrapping!  Erm, your vendor left little room for manoeuvre with their choice of wrapping. The only alternative excuse is that the item would appear to be a part of the superstructure to one of the said Rigby & Peller garments, and one of their sturdier and larger-sized confections to boot!

Rather tricky to explain away a new pair of handlebars when a chap has a perfectly fine pair of North Roads already, I found.

And do remember that you will be requiring some hair spray to ease off the leather grips…  Tact and diplomacy is called for.

Office delivery not an option?  I generally salt my more impulsive on-line purchases away at a client’s office until the appropriate moment.  I had a similar problem collecting my Rapha jersey in that the note from the postman said ‘letter’ so off I went expecting a new bank card or similar only to come home with a bulky package.  A ‘visage de fer’ is what is required in these circs.

On a wider note, Rigby & Peller vouchers go down well if the lady in your life can get to one of their stores. But beware: there is no going back!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the Lauterwassers.

Alex

Morning Gentlemen,

Thank you both for your advice in avoiding future “situations”. I found the comments regarding Rigby and Peller particularly eye opening, prior to today I was under the impression such garments could only be purchased in rubber from ones local adult entertainment store.

Adam

Dear Adam,

I hope you enjoy your newly received Lauterwasser bars.

They look fantastic off the bike and they’lll look even better once fitted to your steed. Congratulations…the hard part now is plucking up the courage to dismantle your current handlebar setup to fit these beauties, alas, once fitted the pain is very worthwhile.

Prepare to ride!!.

Please post some images once the transformation is complete.

Safe riding…

Mr Adam

I have got to say that I am green with envy — and they are not even out of the packet!

May I assume that these fine bars will be fitted to your steed before the Manchester chapter of the GOC on Tuesday?

I sincerely hope so but fear that the racy position may well add several miles per hour to your riding speed and leave me trailing in your wake!

It would seem that it is becoming “de rigeur” to make subtle customisations to the standard Guvnor — and from the the ones I have seen they are very tasteful.

Well done sir — look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Pip Pip

Best regards

Wertie

Mr Adam,

Your recent post has aroused uncontrollable feelings of want and need. I too must have these Lauterwasser bars attached to my steed.

And I trust the restocking of Hendrick’s in the Adam household has served its purpose.

Kind regards,

Martin

Evening Gentlemen,

A while longer before the bars are fitted to the Guv. I’m planning on using bar tape, bar end brakes and a new stem, hopefully I’ll just have to disconnect the cables remove the old stem and bars and drop the new ones in.

Martin Sir, I always find a good strong Hendricks calms Mrs Adam down, to such an extent I’ve taken to lacing her early morning cup of tea with a good slug. I’ve found this makes for a most amicable day.

Adam

Good morning,

Adam, I trust you have referred to irobot’s posts in the matter of bar end brakes?  He had to replace the brake cables with longer ones when he added bar end brakes.  Another concern of mine is whether the angle of the bow in the Lauterwassers is too tight for brake cables to be taped down?  Speaking as an amateur here, grateful for your thoughts.

Martin and Wertie,

A quick search of eBay will find you your hearts’ desire, from £40 to £54.  I know which I would prefer but the premium may secure you some discreet plain brown wrapping to obscure the tell-tale silhouette of the Lauterwassers…

As per Michael2500’s cordial posts, beware the extended reach required for the Lauterwassers over the North Roads.

Finally I would swear that I ride faster with the Lauterwassers, racy posish and all that.

Adam,

I suspect Alex is correct if you plan to run the Brake cables under the bar tape you will probably need to replace the outer and inner cables. I used solder nipples something like the ones in link below although you might want to check the size, I can’t find the original seller who supplied mine.

Evening Gentlemen,

Good points thank you for bringing them to my attention.

Mr. Irobot, thank you for sharing your nipples, I see I have a little adventure of discovery ahead.

For information I purchased my ‘bars from this establishment for £40 with no p&p. http://velodrama.co.uk/shop/ar.….d%3D236%26

Adam,

Congrats on your latest acquisish!  I do hope I did not come across as smug and superior with my comments re cunning re-direction of incoming parcels! All the more so as another weekend has passed and with it the only chance for another week of intercepting the postie with a  Brooks Challenge saddle bag and a Brooks L’Eroica all the way form Milwaukee with all the attendant customs kerfuffle that will entail…

Fingers crossed.

Alex
