G’evening, Gentlemen!

I was riding my new Guv’nor around Helsinki when all of a sudden it started raining cats and dogs, with the unfortunate, but fully foreseeable result of my saddle getting completely soaked. Of course I have had no chance of treating it yet with proofide or any other substance, and now I’m afraid I have destroyed my saddle! Is there anything I can do about it? Or do I worry for no reason?

As for the picture quiz promised in the topic, does anyone of you Gentlemen have any idea what the thing I’ve attached to my handlebars was in its earlier life? I’ll reveal the correct answer tomorrow evening..

Best regards,

Miikka

oooh I love quizzes…  Surprised

Finnish army ammunition pouches ?

… leave saddle to dry out completely but naturally … then put loads of proofide into it (80% on the underside… 20% top side)… leave overnight and rub up your top side. Saddle will be fine. ( in fact it will be better it will fit your “sit bones” properly)

Ha, the very same unfortunate incident ( riding my Guv’nor in Helsinki and caught by nasty pouring rain ) happened to me too yesterday! :) However, I have already treated my B17 with proofide and there’s still plenty of it left if my fellow rider is in urgent need of it. Or a visit to this wonderful little shop might be helpful too, they carry Brooks saddles etc and also proofide:

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your kind help, I have the Guv’nor now indoors and the saddle is drying up. You have greatly eased my mind!

Mr. CycleChap, you almost got it right. They are however Soviet pouches for the Mosin-Nagant ammunition, not Finnish ones. I would have preferred the Finnish ones, as they are far superior quality (the soviet ones are mostly fake leather). As I got the pouches for only 9 euros I think I can live with the quality issues until I can replace them.

Mr. 63Bigsby, thanks for the offer! I think I need to buy my own Proofide in any case, so I’ll pass this kindly provided opportunity for now. I have been planning on visiting the Pelago bicycles anyway, as I understand they also carry some LED-lights that still look the part on a Guv’nor.

Regards,

Miikka

Miikka, unfortunately Pelago is out of stock with those lights currently. I visited them on Monday with the same intentions, they said there won’t be more until  October Frown
