Dear fellow, ‘crow’ you most certainly should! I wouldn’t begrudge any chap slipping through such extortionate charges. Bravo!

Very much looking forward to see what decisions you make.

Kind regards,

Martin

Lawks, good going Sir! You will not regret the purchase of the Brooks Jersey. I am raising a glass of fine Kentish ale to you as I write this. Perhaps it may be wise to begin setting the alarm a little earlier in the morning, so that you may continue your sleep underneath the letterbox. ‘Mum’s the word’, and all that.

Kind regards,

Martin

Martin,

Thanks for your kind thoughts.  However, I live in London and ambushing the postman would entail lurking in the hall between 11am and 1pm most days…

On a more pressing matter: which ale are you savouring this evening?  And if Kentish, how did it make its way to Yorkshire?

Pale ales I have enjoyed recently include the IPAs from the Meantime Brewery (75cl bottle and 7.5% alc so take care) and from St Peter’s.  Both very hoppy but not in that overwhelming way that some smaller American beers are…

Thirsty now.

Ah, those fine buyers at the Co-Operative have brought Shepherd Neame’s Bishops Finger to this fair county. A rich, fruity bitter with a toffee-like after taste. ‘Tis a common one, I know– but still, rather nice.

Although I have to say that one of my new favourites is from a local micro brewery based in Pontefract, just a couple of miles down the road. A delicious stout (if you like that sort of thing, which I most certainly do) infused with liqourice (which the town is famed for– Pomfret Cakes, you might be familiar with). One to savour, for certain. Although it is only made in small batches, whenever it is on the shelves of the local deli, it is pounced upon with gusto.

Wassail (I do believe that to be a more rural toast),

Martin, I do thank you very much for the information about the Brooks jersey.  I buy from Ben’s Cycle in Milwaukee often because their inventory is very large.  Also it is out of state (from Illinois) and I do not have to pay sales tax on my purchases.  I went to their website after you e-mailed and the jersey in XL is now reduced 45%.  I paid $110 (~£67) for the jersey with no tax and no shipping charges.  For members of this forum who have balked because of the price now might be the time to reconsider.   Only S, L and XL sizes remain in stock, but only XL is reduced in price.

..If my better halfs brother (who lives in California,) was to purchase the said item, then post it to me as a “present”, would that avoid all the UK import taxes, VAT etc, and US taxes as he would be out of state ?

I cannot predict what might happen with customs and The Royal Mail on your end, but the goods would definitely get to your brother in law in California tax free.  That’s the way it works in the United States, though the evil tax collectors are trying to change it.

I received my Brooks L’Eroica Jersey from Ben’s in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the middle of last week.  This is the first chance I’ve had to try it on and take some photographs.  Even with my ‘Fat Frank’ waistline an XL is just large enough.  Perhaps having such a fine garmet will give me the initiative to keep slimmed down.

I was planning on ordering one also, not sure of size,  I wear a 42 jacket do you think the XL will be too large?

Don,

The jersey is 20 inches across the shoulder seams and 28 inches long (bottom of collar band to the bottom of the jersey).

Probably best to compare the measurments to a sweater you have that fits well.  The best buy at the moment is the XL at $110.

Darrell,

Thanks for the link to Ben’s Cycles.  I checked and the medium jersey is sold out and the small is still available but priced at $199.  This seems awfully high… do you know what the original price was for this?  I must admit, the jersey looks perfect with the equally stunning BlackAdder.  BTW, you may know me on other websites such as Flickr as “DesignIt”.
