Good evening chaps ,

I’ve been looking about here for a few nights , I wish to purchase a “Guvnor”

But I am quizical of the frame size , my tailor tells me I have an iside leg of 32″, and am 5′ 9″, and that equates to the midle of the 20 1/2″ and the 22 1/2″ frame sizes .

I’ve not seen any Guvnors  in any shops  and am sure they would’nt stock all frame sizes for me to try .

Do you have any wisdome on the subject ?

A sequel? Splendid! No doubt a resolution will be reached in no time by the collective efforts of the GOC’s minds… Mr Fossil, you are in safe hands, Sir!

Kind regards,

Sir, if a Pashley dealer does’nt have a Guv’nor in stock, perhaps you could try other Pashley models in various frame sizes.

DON’T be tempted to buy a Clubman or a Sovereign though. No street-cred.

Fossil.…… greetings.…..take a look in the Forum > The Public House > The Guv’nor’s Vital Statistics, currently on page 14.

The important measurement, I think and your gentleman parts would probably agree, is the frame stand-over height.

Also bear in mind the Guv’nor’s bottom bracket is about an inch higher than most cycles, due to its traditional path racer geometry.

I’m thinking with a 32″ inside leg you would be looking at a 22½” frame which has a 85.5 cm. stand-over height.

Trust this information is helpful in making your choice.

Good evening once again chaps ,

Many thanks for the replys, It would appear that a 20 1/2″ frame would be the order of the day  as it has a standover height of 31 11/16″

which as I’ve just worked out with the latest Babbage difference engine is quite near the crown jewles

Fossil,

Before you finally decide on what frame size to go for, check out the comments in the Forum > The Public House > ‘Size does matter’ and ‘The size of your Guv’nor’, on pages 22 and 29 respectively.

I was in the same quandary, being on the crossover of sizing recommendations when looking to buy my Guv’nor and Pashley advised me to go up a size rather than down.

Sir… I would always agree on going up a size rather than down. The standover height is the only the critical factor, and there is a simple technique to be on the safe side, I always dismount onto my right foot (its a clippless thing for my brain), and I simply drop my right hand and land at a slight angle, this increases the margin of error you have with your “family tackle”.
